My husband surprised me with this photo he snapped on his iPhone in Redlands, California. I love it! He was most interested in the sign, and did not think to buy any fruit. It’s an honor system, leave a few dollars, take home a bag of the best-tasting oranges and avocados on the planet. My understanding of terroir comes from childhood; nothing tastes like an orange grown from the rich red clay of Redlands.

There is no orange in the world that can taste as wonderful as one grown in the red lands of Redlands! The honor system in this city is so refreshing… I doubt that anyone would dare/want to take a bag of oranges without leaving the $2 contribution in the box.
I remember when we came for your grandma’s 80th birthday celebration… I had fallen asleep in the back of my dad’s van, but was awakened by the gorgeous scent of orange blossoms… I knew we had arrived in Redlands!
