I took a slightly different route on my walk today and found this beautiful almond tree. It doesn’t appear to be on private property…
I helped a family harvest almonds in Mallorca one summer during college. Large nets are laid at the foot of the trees and then each tree limb is beaten with a long cane until it drops all of its fruit. The fruits, which look like green apricots, have to be peeled, and the the nut is dried in the sun. My host said that she used the almonds to make marzipan, though I never got to taste it.
