One of my favorite vegetables by far is broccoli. It is easy to grow in your backyard garden and usually grow to harvest in 70-90 days, depending on the variety of broccoli. Many home gardeners grow the broccoli plant, cut off the maid head and then pull the plant. With certain broccoli varieties like Calabrese and Decicco broccoli, after you cut off the head additional secondary shoots will develop within a week and produce many secondary broccoli heads for you to enjoy for an additional two months. So, don’t throw away your broccoli plant after harvesting your main head, there is plenty more to enjoy!

Well thank you! I didn’t know that. 👍🏼
Finished up my broccoli a month ago. Now rebuilding entire garden. Do you eat the broccoli leaves? I do. I put the in my salads. Next season I will try grilling and steaming the leaves.
Thanks Jeff, do you know if this technique works for Cauliflower as well?
Thanks so much for the information🍃🍃🍃
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Duh, I never knew they sent off side shoots.
Hi Jeff, We switched to Broccolini, Aspabroc, which is a cross between Italian Sprouting Broccoli and Gai Lan (Chinese Kale). Sweeter, milder, and more tender , and it begins with the delicious side shoots, then produces them over and over, much like what you’re getting, but with the more succulent flavor. Give it a try!
I agree with you Jeff. Great tip on broccoli shoots. I think the shoots taste as good or better than crowns.
This is a tip many of my customers are not aware of.😎😎😎
Great garden… 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for sharing about that
Thanks for this informative video! I'm growing broccoli for the 1st time and harvested the main head and some of the side shoots.
