How to Grow Rosella AKA Jamaican Sorrel plus Jam, Tea & Syrup Recipes
Hi folks. With Autumn now upon us here in SE Queensland Australia we’re starting to get a bumper crop from our Rosella bushes. These spectacular looking plants have provided us with with a number of tasty harvests that have so far been turned into jams, syrups, cordials, teas & salads. I would definitely recommend growing Rosellas to anyone that likes a bit of a fruity zing in their meals & drinks.

That was a really, really helpful presentation. Thank you for being so thorough about the benefits of this plant. Helped me to make an informed decision on putting this in my landscape in central Florida.
Sadly they're never going to work in the UK – based on my experiences with a short day morning glory this year … even though we had the warmest summer with exotics flowering into December when we suddenly had a one in ten year freeze, nothing short of daylength control could have improved on the one flower that managed to fully develop…
Thanks for sharing so much information about the Rosella, I bought seeds to (hopefully) make my own tea in the end of 2023, I think this plant is really unknown in my country (not the end-product in tea but the plant itself). Greetings from Germany!

What is the best medium to grow this? I have some and want to prevent root rot at the base? Maybe river sand?
Hey Rob, I harvested the fruit on our Rosella plants but forgot to keep one plant going to seed for next year (Rookie mistake) Can I use the seeds from the fruit I picked? And if so, what is the best way to dry them out for storage. Cheers

It's interesting that each lobe of the leaves on your plants are skinny. Mine look closer to one broad leaf. Thank you for making these videos!
are the fruits good to eat straight up? jam seems a bit labor intensive.
Great video on Rosella and I’ve watched couple of videos on this but no one mentioned that the leaves are edible as well. As this plant is originally from west Africa, we do make use of every single parts of it. Look up some recipes for the leaves 🍃 they’re called bisab in Senegal and The Gambia. In Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia it’s called sour-sour ( sawa sawa)
