GRAINS: Wheat Berry, Quinoa & Groats. These are truly invaluable to save money in the kitchen. Wheat Berry and Groats are very cheap by the pound. They are between 45 cent and 65 cents. Now Quinoa is a tad more, but the trick is to only buy enough for only for one or two servings. Beside you not going to be eating Quinoa like it’s going out of style.
If the water is low in the pot while it is simmering add more water until it is covered again. turn the burner up until it starts to simmer, then return to low.
(Wheat Berry make a very yummy breakfast cereal with milk and fruit.) Beats the $5.00 box full air and sugar.)
Wheat Berry: ( Regardless the amount you use) 1 cup 3 cups it’s all the same. I make about two cups.
1. Quickly look over & wash and drain.
2. Put in pan and cover with water Soak over night or for about 6 to 8 hour. If it goes over that fine.
3. After it is done soaking. Pour off old water and add new fresh water.
4. Bring to a boil then turn down to low and simmer for a hour. (Lid off)
5. After the hour is up. Turn burner off and rest for a half hour.
6. After half hour is up drain off water and cool.
Quinoa & Groats.
1. Pick though and rinces.
2. Put in pot with fresh water and rest over night. 6 to 8 hours if longer it’s ok.
3. Drain off old water add fresh water covering Quinoa and Groats.
4. Brings to a boil then simmer for two minutes.
5. Shut off burner.
6. Rince and cool.
