Weight Loss without Hunger — A Presentation by Elaine French
The obesity statistics in the U.S. are shocking, and dozens of weight loss plans claim to have the solution. Is a high protein, low carb diet the answer? Learn the truth about popular diet foods like rice cakes, air-popped popcorn, and fat-free crackers. Do they fill us up or only make us hungrier? Can we lose weight without counting calories? Do we have to exercise? Discover which group of people has the lowest obesity rate in the country, and what they are eating. Choose the right foods to eat to fill your stomach and keep you satisfied for hours.
Elaine French graduated from Willamette University, and was an international flight attendant for 33 years. She edited Dr. John McDougall’s first books and taught cooking classes to his patients. She was a founder and the first president of the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii. In 2002 she and her husband Jerry Smith moved to St. George, Utah and opened a vegan restaurant. For five years they created the menu, recipes, and meals for a weight loss spa. They also helped to found the Vegetarian Society of Utah, where they still serve as advisors. In 2008, Elaine created the popular website vegan-weight-loss.com

prolly because Rip's recipes are transitional. EVen the thought of eating beans is unhappy for many SAD eaters, let alone low salt. Recipes using beans, even canned beans, are still better than meat based recipes.
really? One of my good friends, and a hero of mine, has lost almost 300 lbs eating plants only, and it has taken him about two years and he's still going strong. I know many others who have lost and kept off significant poundage eating starch based plant foods. I've been going 4 years. I feel satisfied after every meal, and get hungry again after four or five hours, and I eat only plants. I get my protein from plants, and I eat a lot of complex carbs…it is the starches that satisfy my hunger.
Sorry, but that is nonsense.
Adding greens (like raw kale) to fruit smoothies seems to curb hunger, maybe due to the mentioned nutritional satiety factor. No? Seems to work this way for me. I don't feel at all hungry until well into early afternoon, 1:00-2:00pm.
I think you've missed the point. If you eat low calorie density foods, you don't need to worry so much about how much of it you eat.
Not sure why are drained canned beans much different than home cooked.
Check out this video by Mike Teehan. He explains how he went from eating vegan junk food to vegan health food and lost 176 pounds and maintained the weight loss: /watch?v=Z4V2Zo3xEIw
That is perfect if you have or none pounds to lose. For people who are obese, it doesn't work. They have to go all the way.
Well than I was exception because as a vegetarian I gained 120 pounds of surplus. After trying everything I went on Atkins diet (I was really desperate) and I lost all weight in 6 months, more or less effortlessly. Whoever thinks that weight loss can be based on beans and whole grains, either was never obese or is in delusion.
Congratulations on your improved diet! There are many studies documenting the benefits of eats lots of whole plant foods.
You don't have to go all the way. I don't. At the moment I'm experimenting with simply adding shitloads of veg to my diet. And it does fill me up for much longer. And the cool thing is that I don't get sugar cravings after a veg-rich meal.
there are flaws in everyones arguments and works as we are only human but its taking the information from several source and researching on your on when you learn the facts personally I don't trust any one persons view but on that note there are tons of experts who have spend a lifetime studying and doing work that argue highly against vegetarian diets and promote low carb diets I study all diets and sorry for anyone that doubts but a natural/raw lowcarbhighfat wins hands down do the research
what studies show that long term natural weightloss is more effective as a vegan? consume fewer calories on average? better body composition?
there are tons of studies and science behind a low carb high fat diets btw maybe try looking first?
! ! ! !
????
Of course veganism isn't the only part of the answer. Eating olive oil and corn flakes all day obviously won't cut it. Prior to switching to veganism, one's diet could have lead to all kinds of health situations, some of which might need medication such as thyroid issues.
lol, i'm more interested in the science backing Atkins. From my understanding there isn't any.
Perhaps to you they do, but studies have shown that people who experience long term natural weight loss do so more effectively as vegans. In addition, studies have demonstrated that vegans tend consume fewer calories on average and have better body composition than omnivores consuming the same number of calories.
I think that a little broad characterization of the effect of carbs. Are you saying the body reacts the same way to refined carbs like granulated sugar and whole foods like beans and whole grains? After all studies have found that on average vegetarians have lower BMI than non-vegetarians.
Because you probably ate even more disgusting food than fish before.
Theoretically I agree. But that is not a point. The point is that kidney beans primarily carbs provoke appetite, not suppress.
There is plenty of protein in plant foods, plants foods are not all carbs.
For example 1 cup of cooked kidney beans supplies 11% of your daily calorie needs and 31% of your daily protein needs.
