My husband bought this product just to try it out. I had no idea what it was until I read about it. It turned to be one of the most healthiest food in the earth. It is very good for people who have issues with Gluten, diabetes, high cholesterol, Heart Disease and for postmenopausal women with high cholesterol, high blood pressure or other signs of cardiovascular disease. It is very high in fiber and protein. It contains many minerals and vitamins. It is a good source for antioxidant. So basically it is good for you:)
So what is the buckwheat, many people think that buckwheat is a cereal grain, it is actually a fruit seed that is related to rhubarb and sorrel making it a suitable substitute for grains for people who are sensitive to wheat or other grains that contain protein glutens. Buckwheat flowers are very fragrant and are attractive to bees that use them to produce a special, strongly flavored, dark honey.
Please read more about it from this link:-
Now let come to its taste, well honestly first when I tasted it, I wasn’t happy about it neither I hated it :). It taste similar to boiled corn or hominy. I didn’t want to toss it because of its high benefit. So I ate it with pickles, tomato and cucumber just to overcome its taste. Finally I made salad out of it like taboula and it was delicious.
Another way to cook it is:-
-Fry some chopped onion and green pepper then add your buckwheat and add some spices of your choice and cook it as you would cook burghul pilaf.
Roasted BuckWheat Salad:-
Cooking the Buckwheat:-
1 cup buckwheat washed and drained
2 cup water
3 Tbsp oil
1 tsp or to test
Boil water, oil and salt on high temperature then add buckwheat. Let the water come to boil again then lower the temperature to low and cook for about 30 minutes or until the buckwheat is tender and fluffy.
To Make Salad/ Taboula
You can add any vegetables of your choice and the amount you like.
I added chopped parsley, cilantro, tomato, cucumber, green onion, white onion, avocado and pomegranate seeds.
The Dressing:-
-Mix salt, black pepper, olive oil, and lemon juice or lime juice or apple cider vinegar.
Enjoy 🙂
