In today’s video I am going to do a homemade hummus.
Hummus means chickpeas in Arabic and It’s particularly suitable for vegetarians and vegans as hummus is loaded with digestible protein and fibre. Hummus is a great snack to have in the fridge.
Ingredients for Hummus:
250g / 9 oz dried chick peas
1 1/2 -2ltrs / 2 pints of water
1/3 cup of lemon juice
5 tbs tahini
1 tbs chopped parsley
2 cloves of garlic
1 tsp of salt
1/2 cup of chickpea liquid
1/2 tsp of smoked paprika
2 tbs of olive oil optional
To start the hummus soak washed chickpeas in water overnight, then place them in a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Cook the chickpeas for around 75 minutes or until chickpeas are soft, then strain and keep some of the liquid for the hummus.
For putting the hummus together place garlic, cooled chickpeas, parsley, smoked paprika, salt and lemon juice in a food processor or blender and blend for 1-2 minutes. Then add the chickpea liquid, tahini and olive oil and blend the hummus to a smooth paste.
Afterwards taste the hummus and add more salt, lemon juice or tahini to your own personal taste.
ENJOY!
