My 12 year old chihuahua has cushings and was recently diagnosed with diabetes. We are struggling to get her diet right. Do you have any idea if brewers yeast should be added to her food? She’s been doing fantastic with pumpkin. She was really enjoying blueberries but then stopped cold and suddenly showed no interest. And Do you use a glucometer? Our vet isn’t suggesting much of anything and I am trying so hard to give her the best care I can.
My daughter and son-in-law have a dog named Mila.
Is this recipe good for dogs with kidney failure?
I watched this whole video hoping to get the recipe for homemade dog food for my diabetic dog. Is there someplace to get the exact recipe?
What would you think about using quinoa for a diabetic dog?
Hello there, if you happen to have the time to reply with your advice or opinion I would really appreciate it as I’m trying to help my sister take care of her 13 year old Shorkie with diabetes and Cushing’s disease.
She has had diabetes for approximately a year and we already proceeded with a surgery to remove bladder stones. We are administering insulin twice a day with he meals. As of lately we have noticed that she is increasingly begging for food at all hours of the day. We feed her at 5 AM and 5 PM every day with a controlled amount of food as per the veterinarian’s guidelines for quantity of food for that sized dog.
It’s breaking our heart to see her constantly begging for food and crying for an entire hour before we feed her every day. Is there a type of food like cooked vegetables that we can feed her throughout the day that won’t impact her blood sugar levels?
We are unable to conduct blood strip
Tests at home because she is just impossible, But we do have the veterinarian complete a blood glucose curve from time to time to test her response to whatever diet. We are feeding her the recommended diabetes-friendly kibble, But she eats it so quickly and is asking for more immediately.
Do you have any advice for feeding the dog some kind of food that has a net zero impact on her blood sugar levels throughout the day so that she will stop whimpering and keeping us up at night. She is an old dog and we’re trying to prolong her life as much as we can but it’s really causing strain on our quality of life as well as her. Any advice would be really appreciate it please thank you so much for your attention.

Would oat bran be better than oatmeal?
Will this recipe work for a havanese/maltese dog. He is 12 years old and was just diagnosed with diabetes.
Hi, we just had our buddy go back into the hospital with pancreatitis, the second time, we are currently feeding her science diet sensitive stomach. We are trying to get her BG to stay down all day, but we are getting higher levels toward the end of the day/night. Most of the day we can keep her in the 100's or 200's but right before her meal she seems to shoot up to the 400's. It does not seem like the insulin lasts long enough. Any ideas why this might be? We usually have to give her a small treat during the day as her BG will go down too low. We want to feed her something else, but are not sure what would be best as she has only been diabetic for 9 months, but like I mentioned recently had to be admitted back in for vomit/diarrhea, which is when she had pancreatitis. What would you suggest as far as keeping the BG down between doses?
Piper is a small dachshund mix and only weighs 10-11lbs. She gets between 1.8 and 1.9 units of insulin daily and is almost 11 years old.
But oats are high glycemic food.Wouldnt that increase her glycemic load?
